Hailing from Upstate New York, our TARNATION! Sports funny tee shirts model Monica is a relative newcomer in the modeling business. She got her start as a featured model for DermOrganic at the International Beauty Show 2012.
Monica is also a ballet dancer, and has appeared in the Westchester Ballet Company’s Productions of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, The Nutcracker, and others. She was featured as a soloist in their production of Bolero.
First, and most important question! Your favorite sports team? 🙂
I always have loved baseball. Everyone in my family loves baseball. Favorite team would have to be the Yankees. They were the only NY team that played in North Carolina, so while both my parents are Mets fans, all the kids are Yankees fans. Got the Jeter Fever from a young age lol. But sometimes baseball can be boring to watch, so football and hockey are def up there as well. Giants and rangers all the way lol. And who doesn’t love a good sports fight? 😉
No doubt, we love seeing two millionaires knock each other senseless. It’s therapeutic. So Monica, tell us a bit about your background. Are you a city girl or a country girl?
I think I’m somewhere in between! I live a bit north of the city, but I’m always taking the train in, so it’s kinda the best of both worlds! I don’t live on a farm or anything though haha, so I’m probably more city than country. I was born in North Carolina, but then moved to New York when I was about 6. I used to have a southern accent, and it does come out every once in a while!
How did you get started with modeling?
I actually just recently started modeling…. the first job I got was at the International Beauty Show this past April, and I loved it! So I’m kinda a newbie but I’m trying to expand my horizons.
I’ve been dancing since I was 3 years old, so dancing is a definite passion of mine. When I’m dancing it feels like I’m taken to another world where all my thoughts are pushed away except for the movements and just “feeling” the music. Its kinda hard to explain lol. But it’s a passion of mine that I’ve loved since I was young. I used to be a teachers assistant for a young ballet class, and after a few weeks you watch them improve with the corrections you give them, so you get a sense of accomplishment with watching them succeed because of you. I also just recently got licensed to teach Zumba so I’m pretty excited about that!!! I got involved with Zumba because my boyfriend teaches it. Now he’s traveling all over the world teaching huge master classes so he’s been pretty successful lol. It’s just a really fun atmosphere and gets you super in shape so it’s a fun workout!
Fun is good. And other than modeling, do you have any other professional aspirations?
Well, I’ve been auditioning for Broadway shows for the past couple of months. That’s always been something I’ve wanted to do because of my dancing. I’ve been trained in ballet, tap, jazz and modern, and have been singing for a long time as well, so that’s always been my dream. I used to dream of being in a ballet company as well, and that will be in the back of my mind, but we’ll see where the world takes me!
So how do you like modeling funny tee shirts for us at Tarnation Sports?
I love it!!! The t-shirts are so comfortable and awesome that they just totally let you have fun in front of the camera! I’ve always been a very upbeat person, so this is a way for me to express that! Taaaaaar-nation!
Thanks Monica. So there’s always one dumb question in every interview. Ready? What was your most embarrassing moment?
I was at the beach on vacation and a seagull pooped on me!!!! I think that was the second time that happened in a few months too, so it was kind of awful. But hey, it’s supposed to be good luck right?!
Hmm, I actually just looked into this and it turns out that it’s only good luck if the bird pooped on your head. Anywhere else and you’re screwed. Good Luck Monica! 🙂
Hmmm, I think I would want to be able to fly…I always have dreams that I’m flying, so experiencing it in real life would be pretty awesome! Plus I could cut out a lot of traffic 😉
OK, you are the second model we’ve interviewed that has complained about traffic. Let me ask you this—- have you ever thought about AIR traffic?
On second thought, let’s not think about that. So what’s next for you?
So what’s next for me would be to find a place to teach Zumba classes, and/or book more modeling/commercial/theater gigs. So I’m staying hopeful! 🙂
Great, thanks for being a good sport. We’re rooting for ya, and glad to have you on our team!
