Quote from Carmelo Anthony: “It’s not up to me. It’s up to the organization to say that they want to match that ridiculous contract.”
He then added, “I’d love to see him back, but I think he has to do what’s best for him right now.”
I think Anthony does not want Lin back, which makes sense, since Lin could spread the ball around, which doesn’t jive with Anthony’s “give me the ball so I can iso” mentality.
The team has committed to Anthony, and what Anthony wants, Anthony gets. It’s possible that Dolan was on the fence, between Anthony’s desire and keeping Lin, and the contract negotiations pushed him over the edge. In today’s NBA, when your star player wants something he usually gets it.
Frank Isola of The NY Daily news thinks “this somehow goes back to Chris Paul. There may just be a method to the Knicks madness.”
Remember that Anthony and Paul are friends, and they discussed playing together at Anthony’s wedding.
Is it possible that the Knicks could be trying to arrange something for Paul, knowing something we don’t?
